AMS: Abysmal weather and less than an hour of aircraft photography

On our way to Denmark, we made a short stop in Amsterdam. My plan was to spend some time on Saturday and Sunday capturing airplanes, but the Dutch weather decided otherwise.

Right after we landed in AMS, we headed to the panorama terrace. But I only had about 20 minutes before the rain started in earnest. So I only managed to bag a handful of so-so photos. During the night, the weather worsened even more, and when I returned to the terrace next morning, I discovered to my utter dismay that it was closed due to the adverse weather conditions.

I briefly considered taking a Bolt to the Polderbaan spot, but I decided against it, because the weather was getting from bad to worse.

The terrace was opened on Monday, so I spend about 20 minutes, trying to bag at least a few usable photos — and sudden rain showers didn't make it any easier.

When we booked our trip, I was fully aware that making aircraft photography plans in AMS in December was a dicey proposition, so I knew the risks. And even though, the weather did prevent me from getting the most out of our stay, I'm glad I had a chance to do a bit of airplane photography at all.

By the way, we stayed at a Citizen M hotel, with our room facing the air field. So in the evenings, I stayed glued to the window, watching airplanes, taxiing back and forth.

Special thanks to my lovely wife for bearing with me. Oh, and Happy Holidays!
