Good weather, a thermos with hot coffee, a home-made sandwich, and, of course, a camera is all I need to have an enjoyable time at NUE (or any airport for that matter). There weren't any exciting airplanes on the menu this Saturday, but that didn't stop me from going to the airport anyway, because 1) RWY 10 was active, 2) there was a chance to catch my good old friend Fairchild Dornier Do-328JET-310 (reg. D-BADA).
After taxiing somewhat confusingly around the airfield, the yellow airplane had finally found its way to RWY 10 and took off, giving me yet another opportunity to photograph the machine basking in the sun. Besides D-BADA, I also captured a SunExpress Boeing 737-800 (reg. TC-SPM) wearing Eintracht Frankfurt livery and a handful of airplanes that I've photographed before.
Despite my rather modest results, I wasn't disappointed, because while I love capturing airplanes, I enjoy watching airport activity too. There is something meditative about observing what's happening on the airfield: mechanics tending to aircraft, pushback tugs gingerly maneuvering expensive machines, trucks emptying or loading airplanes, passengers boarding or deboarding aircraft. Even in our relatively small airport, there is plenty of action on the airfield to keep yours truly entertained for hours.
