Aviation YouTube channels worth watching
In the sea of mediocrity that is YouTube, there are plenty of "aviation" channels you can spend countless hours watching yet learning absolutely nothing of value about aviation. You can, of course, get exciting insights in what First Class meals look like and taste, have a fair share of loo reviews, or watch a glorified webcam, whose owner's only contribution is to babble excitingly about how many viewers are currently watching the stream. I'm maybe exaggerating, but not by much.
Thankfully, there is a handful of genuinely interesting and educational channels that I subscribe to, and I look forward to each and every new video they share.
- Alex Praglowski Aviation Unlike most YouTubers who behave like jaded restaurant food critics, Alex's enthusiasm for all things aviation shines through all of his videos. I enjoy watching his videos because 1) his passion is infectious, 2) he comes across as a genuinely nice person, 3) he covers interesting airplanes.
- Mentour Now! Hands down the best channel for comprehensive look into emerging aviation technologies, current aviation trends, news analysis, aviation history, and more.
- Mentour Pilot There are several channels that deal with airplane disasters, but none of them come close to Mentour Pilot. It's obvious that an enormous amount of research and effort goes into production of each and every episode. The focus is on a detailed analysis of all contributing factors, with in-depth explanations of aircraft systems. A large part of the analysis is dedicated to the human factor.
- FRAProduction This is what aviation videos look like when they are done by true professionals. Some videos have specific themes (best of four-engine heavies, iconic military planes, etc.), while other are more conventional planespotting highlights. The quality and the production value of each video is outstanding. This is one of the best channels to learn how to film and photograph airplanes.
- Stig Aviation Stig (not his real name) is an aircraft maintenance technician, who is both passionate and knowledgeable. His videos are veritable treasure troves of useful and interesting knowledge. While watching him going about his daily work, you'll get an insights into different aspects of aircraft maintenance, learn how various aircraft systems work, and peek into the corners of the airplane that are normally out of reach for mere mortals.
